The European Accessibility Act (EU Directive 2019/882) has been in force since 28 June 2025. It requires certain products and services, such as physical and digital payment systems, to be accessible to people with disabilities.
The aim is to ensure that people with visual, hearing, motor or cognitive disabilities can also make payments independently, without barriers.
PAYCOMET, with Banco Sabadell and the POS manufacturers, has anticipated this regulation in order to facilitate the transition:
- Smart POS manufactured from 28 June 2025 already incorporate an accessible mode by default, which includes voice prompts, acoustic signals, headphone connection, and a larger, high-contrast keypad.
- Smart POS installed before that date will be automatically and progressively upgraded over the coming months, without the merchant having to do anything.
- POS with external physical keyboards already comply with the requirements of the regulation and do not require changes.
There is no need to replace the devices or do anything manually.
